Darren Tate / DT8 Project Interview
We caught up with Mondo top bod
DARREN TATE to reflect on the last 12 months, talk about his hugely received DT8 PROJECT album 'Perfect World' and find out what's in store from the man himself very soon, read on to find out more!
1. Hi Darren, how are you?
I’m fab, but could do with more sun. Much like the rest of the population of GB.
2. How has 2008 been treating you so far?
Most of it has been spent beavering away in the studio. Other than that I’ve just about recovered from NYE :-).
3. What was your highlight of 2007?
Difficult to pinpoint a single event. Probably the release of “Perfect World” which of course was the culmination of a lot of hard work.
4. After the much anticipated release of your DT8 Project 'Perfect World' album, what sort of reaction did it get?
It had rave reviews across the board, which included not just the dance press but some mainstream as well. In addition, many fans came through and said how much they enjoyed it, which is always rewarding.
5. You had three massive hit singles from Perfect World, ‘Narama’, 'Hold Me Till The End' and 'Power of One', will there be a fourth single?
Actually we’ve had more big records than that – the first was “The Sun Is Shining (Down On Me)” on Mondo and then “Winter” on Data / MOS. However in regards to the question we do intend on releasing another DT8 Project package, which will probably consist of two key singles from the album.
6. Aside from your busy travel itinerary, what are you currently working on right now in the studio?
I’m working on various new projects. There will be another Darren Tate release, but there’s some big house stuff in the pipeline too which will be under a different name. Plus I’m working on various film projects.
7. You currently host your monthly radio show, 'The Mondo Sessions' with Dale Corderoy and currently the show is being picked up by more stations around the globe, did you expect this sort of success? How would you describe the show for people who haven’t heard it?
I’m very pleased the show is doing as well as it is and it’s popularity has certainly escalated since it started back on Ministry in 2003. The Mondo Sessions represents a wide range of dance music and is not just specific to one genre (as is evident in our format which I like to think skillfully blends everything from laid back house to hard trance together). In addition we love great music and our focus is on what the public wants and not just about being seen to play the right tunes. The show is co-hosted by Dale (Corderoy) and unlike many other shows out there we don’t take ourselves too seriously which makes things fun.
8. The Mondo Sessions Vol.1 compilation was very well received, it’s gained a huge fan base and there are rumours floating round the Internet of a second volume? Are there any plans for a second installment soon?
Yes we do intend to do a Mondo Sessions Vol. 2 shortly (we have been promising it for a while). The first was a big success and there is indeed a big demand so keep your eyes peeled.
